Aug 24, 2013· Carbon on the crown of the piston is no big deal. Carbon build-up IN the ring grooves can be a bad thing, though. I''m not sure which chemical would be suitable for this. The old trick of using a broken ring to scrape out the groove may work but it''s pretty easy to remove some piston along with the carbon.
